FAQs
What will our session be like?
I typically allot 2–3 hours for a session — not because we’ll be shooting nonstop, but because that’s the window we’ll spend together. It’s about capturing an entire morning or afternoon in your life, with plenty of room to move at your family’s pace. We can pause for snacks, nursing, wardrobe changes, or just to regroup. There’s no pressure to perform or pose; I’ll gently guide you when needed, but much of what I capture is intuitive and based on the connection between family members. We will plan an activity together beforehand (I have a cheatsheet of great prompts to share!) Something like: baking cookies, making lemonade, something seasonal like swimming at the lake, apple picking, sledding. It could also be as simple as taking a walk, cuddling on the couch, playing at home. Expect a mix of quiet connection and joyful chaos — I’m there to create a photogenic container and then let magic unfold.
What should we wear?
Style plays a big role in creating beautiful, timeless images — but that doesn’t mean you need to overthink it. I encourage you to dress like yourselves, just a slightly elevated version. Think: classics like worn-in denim, oversized knits, playful pops of color, natural textures, and silhouettes with movement. Bare feet, loose hair, bold socks — these details all help tell your story.
Will there be help with styling?
Absolutely. Before our session, I’ll share a wardrobe mood board and offer styling guidance tailored to your family and the activity we choose. Whether you want to keep it simple with pieces you already own or mix in a few new staples, I’ll help you curate looks that feel cohesive but never too matchy. I'm happy to send links to some of my favorite brands, and for an added fee, I can even do a bit of wardrobe shopping on your behalf. I also have a collection of vintage and modern children’s clothing that I can bring to supplement your child’s wardrobe. And occasionally, I’ll source props or special pieces that align with the concept of your shoot.
What if my kids (or partner) aren’t into it?
That’s okay. It’s actually expected! Little kids (and sometimes grown-ups) need time to warm up — and I always build that into our session. I meet everyone where they are, without pressure or expectation. Some of the most beautiful moments come from the chaos. Let go of the idea of “perfect,” and I promise, the magic will follow.
What if the weather is bad or someone gets sick?
Life happens. If the weather turns or someone’s under the weather, we’ll reschedule — no stress. I leave room in my calendar for flexibility and will always work with you to find a new date that feels good for everyone.
What time of day should we shoot?
Whenever the light in your home is best — that might be mid-morning, afternoon, or golden hour. We’ll also factor in your kids’ natural rhythms, planning around post-nap energy and building in time for meals or snack breaks so no one gets hangry. It’s all about setting the conditions for everyone to feel relaxed and at ease.
What’s your policy on nudity?
I’m completely open to it — I celebrate body positivity and the beauty of the human form. If it’s something you’re drawn to, I wholeheartedly encourage it. Skin-to-skin moments, breastfeeding, pregnant bodies, kids running free without a hint of self-consciousness — these can be some of the most honest, tender, and timeless images. Nudity is always approached with care and intention, and only included when it feels natural and meaningful to you. These moments are never forced, and treated with the sensitivity they deserve.
